What does it mean to be a good person?
In a high school civics class, our teacher asked what we wanted to be.
Everyone told of the colleges that they were applying to; their accomplishments and their hopes and dreams – and who their parents knew.
A close friend said, use my skills to get jobs that will help me save to travel the world. Someday, I want to own a pot shop. She did both. She was one of the warmest, courageous and kind persons I ever met.
The teacher got to me. I didn’t really want to answer that. He called out my name and said, what would you want to be. I said kind. A good person. Laughter rang out, except from the teacher and my dear friend. The teacher gave them such a look and they got quiet. He asked me if I could define that – I said: to learn, to try and understand so I can make good answers with my life.
A good person? A person who has that goal; who firmly roots that as their intention and holds it, acting it out throughout their life. I know a few of those. I remember to bless them everyday.
