What’s a place you visited that felt like home?
I visited Eugene, Oregon decades ago, and fell in love with it. I hiked in the snow and sat at a campfire on the beach at the ocean. I wanted to stay. Time and circumstance intervened.
2021, southern Illinois. The food, generosity, humor and kindness, community. The woods for a backyard and all the wildlife who visited us. My ancestors, some of them dearly known to me, buried there in a cemetery of my name. The conversation and friendship of like minded and shared interests. We thought this would be the place we would not leave. One of us had to move on.
We must bloom where we’re planted and carry those memories in our hearts.
